Bowen Technique
The Bowen Technique is a holistic therapy, which can be effective for physical, structural and emotional issues.
What it involves
Gentle rolling moves are made over muscle, ligaments, tendons and soft tissue in different parts of the body to stimulate a healing and adjustment response. Bowen is performed through light clothing, and is suitable for all ages and all levels of fitness. While it can be used to treat many of the same issues as modalities such as osteopathy and chiropractic treatments, it is very different to receive in that it is much more gentle, and there is no forced manipulation or 'clicking into place'. It is a very relaxing treatment to receive, and can help with issues such as stress, anxiety and hormonal issues as well as muscular skeletal problems or pain conditions.

Current and historic issues will be discussed prior to any treatment being given, and structural assessments as required, before the client is asked to lie down on the treatment couch. Treatment is applied through light clothing – please wear light items such as t-shirt / leggings or sports clothing in order to allow the moves to be made more effectively.
Most moves are made with the client lying down, as long as the client is comfortable; though some may be performed with the client seated or standing. Gentle, rolling movements are made over muscles, tendons and soft tissue at precise points on the body.
Each sequence of moves is interspersed by a break, during which the therapist moves away, to allow the client to rest. These breaks typically last a couple of minutes and are a key element of the treatment, which allow time for the brain and body to respond to the moves that have been made.
Appointments are usually between 45 minutes and an hour, and includes consultation at each treatment to discuss how the client is progressing.

Each treatment aims to release tension in the body and encourage realignment. Acute injury may respond within 1-3 sessions, while chronic conditions may require several sessions. An initial course of 3 treatments is recommended to establish whether the client is likely to respond to treatment, ideally at an interval of 5-7 days apart. Clients often find a ‘top-up’ treatment every few weeks or months is helpful to maintain good health and well being.
